About Karen...

Karen has taken photographs since she was a child but photography became her passion in 2001 when she became immersed in the photography program at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria, CA. Her photographic education has spanned an extensive use of film, historical processes, the 4x5 view camera, plastic toy cameras, and digital photography. Working in her own darkrooms, both traditional and digital, she has been able to steadily pursue personal projects.

Karen's work has been included in many group showings locally at the Betteravia Center and the Ann Foxworthy Gallery in Santa Maria and has had solo shows in the Shepherd Gallery and at the Grossman Gallery in Lompoc. Her work has also been juried into photo exhibitions at RayKo Photo Center in San Francisco, Julia Dean in Los Angeles, Tilt Gallery in Phoenix, AZ, SoHo Photo Gallery in New York, and most recently, two shows at the A. Smith Gallery in Johnson City, TX.

A California native, Karen graduated from Allan Hancock College with an A.A. degree in Liberal Arts and Cal Poly State University in San Luis Obispo, CA with a B.A. degree in Communication Studies. Prior to photography, Karen enjoyed a career in fashion management and merchandising and has lived in Los Angeles, Honolulu, Seattle, and Chicago, before moving to the Central coast of California.
